Financial CRM Redtail Suffers a data Breach
On March 4th financial CRM leader Redtail, discovered a breach that exposed personal client information entered by advisors that included birth dates, social security numbers names and addresses.
Redtail discovered the breach on March 4th when one of its logging systems captured some private sensitive investor data that advisors store in the CRM and that file was left open and exposed to anyone on the Internet
After the discovery of the breach Redtail immediately removed the file and began investigating the cause of the exposure.
Part of the investigation and remediation involved Redtail to create new application that would help determine what accounts were compromised. Those affected accounts were notified of the breach and identity theft protection was offered through LifeLock
Redtail CEO Brian McLaughlin said in an emailed statement "Less than 1% of Redtail clients were affected by this data exposure, we are taking this matter very seriously and are doubling down on our efforts to ensure that our customers' data is safe and secure."
He went on further to say that this was not a breach by a 3rd party actor, just " A temporary exposure which Redtail uncovered and corrected. I guess that means Redtail made an ooopsie?
